Remember that "69th Division in Leipzig" album? It turned out to be a total misrepresentation - the 69th pamphlet must have belonged to a relative. Anyway, the album was pretty good though, as it came from a veteran from the 16th Infantry Regiment of the 1st Division. Photos of interest include shots of the Falkenau concentation/work camp as well as some great wounded POW shots. A small handful of negatives was also included. A little bit expensive, but I guess it turned out alright.

I'm already "doing my thing" and have identified at least one member of the unit. He passed away a few years ago, but I'm hoping it may help me narrow down my search. At least one of these guys has to still be around, right?

The one man I identified was Leo Szczepanski who passed away in Arizona two years ago.

And a neat pair of two shots of a German soldier dressed in civilian dress who tried to escape while the unit was in Falkenau. A GI shot him in the leg as he was fleeing.

Brennan, Great start to the thread. I really love the painted lids in the first shot!

Gotta love the painted helmets. Hope you stumble across one at the SoS.......

Here are a few more helmet insignia shots.

Thanks Michael! I love tracking down WWII veterans. My pride and joy was being able to track down members of the same company from my 42nd Division grouping. That has been a real treat. The stories and friendships that have come from that grouping are priceless.

Anyway, here are a few of the negatives from the 1st Division grouping.

cool shots Brenna.
Was there not one shot showing the famous welcome to Leipzig sign ?
Did you contact the seller about this big mistake ?

Best wishes.
Ian :D

These are really fantastic shots. There's nothing better than these never before published images!

These pictures seem to come from the estate of W.E. McKnight. I won a couple of auctions, but sadly not the ones I acctually wanted. Some of the "Ardennes" photos were acctually taken in the Harz Mountains, showing rare german tanks ("St.Andreasberg Jagdtiger" and one of the few "All Steelwheel Panthers".

These are "Joe and Bill" in front of the Hotel "Weisser Schwan" in Graslitz, now Kraslice.

Not sure I understand this post. Do you have photos from the same grouping as me?

I am not sure (anymore), between your "Falkenau" photos and my "Grasnitz" photos is only a 22km distance. But my pictures are printed on paper with sharpe edges, yours are not. My photos came all from the same ebay seller, but from at least three different auctions, the last batch (Grasnitz/Czech.) however were mixed up with pictures from another unit and sold as taken near Leipzg.

First of GREAT photographs!

I believe the Lt. on the photo is Bela B. Lukacs.
